Simply Reliable's SmartOffice is a true net workable solution. Data is broadcast instantly across all of the computers on the network. Everyone can be contributing to a proposal at the same time. One person can be working on the change order, while another is creating Purchase orders and still another can be creating work orders. This flexibility ensures that everyone in the office has all of the information they need to do their job effectively and efficiently. You will never have to enter the same in multiple systems again. Everything is kept organized in one place, the Simply Reliable SmartOffice.
The SmartOffice system can be implemented over a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network or a Client/Server configuration. With a P2P network one computer acts as a client and the host at the same time. That computer has to be on and have SmartOffice open but then everyone on teh network will be able to see the same data and operate independently. For a Client/Server configuration there is a dedicated data server. This is just a computer that can host the files, but in this configuration the Server cannot act as a client. This means that you have to have a separate computer that no one will use to act as the server. It must run Windows XP Pro or higher to be an effective server.
Advantages and Disadvantages of each system.
With the Client/Server configuration you have the ability to schedule automated live backups that are performed without any downtime. This system is much more scalable and can handle many more users than a P2P network and offers a much more robust performance depending on the actual server and the network. The downside is that this system is more expensive as it requires a separate computer and a separate installation of the SmartOffice Server Console.
The P2P configuration is less expensive to install and can be just as efficient. However backups must be scheduled and run manually using a third party backup software. This system is also limited to 4 total computers including the host.
Wide Area Network Access
Our system is run over a Local Area Network. This means that all client computers must be connected locally to the network. You cannot access the network remotely through a VPN or the internet. We recommend Terminal services for remote access. Any XP Pro or higher computer can be configured to allow remote access. We also recommend LogMeIN.com. A free service that will allow you access to your desktop computer from remote locations.
