SmartOffice Feature of the Week - Quick Schedule

Every week we are going to highlight one new feature that our crack team of developers have come up with to make SmartOffice a better place to work.  So with any further bloviating let’s get started

Have you seen the new Quick Schedule Tab?  If not head over to the schedule section and check it out.  It allows you to quickly view your week and move appointments around as needed.  Just select an appointment and then select what day you want to schedule it for.  Simple.

You must be running v6.9.3 or higher to see this new feature so if you have an older version just call to schedule and upgrade.

This feature was developed with a lot of help from Frank Barrett at Barrett Electric in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. Thanks Frank!

Back-up or Pack-up

Back-up your important files or you’ll be sorry.  Everyone has heard this and we all shake our heads when we hear it, because we know that we are not as careful as we should be.  So let me share a story with you.  It is a short one  but it is sort of scary, so you may want to click away if there are young children in the room.

John from our tech support team gets a call the other day from, Jason, a client that uses SRS daily to manage their business (obviously, names have been change to protect the innocent).  Well apparently Jason had his server crash; and not a small crash that he could just reboot from either (We love Windows).  Everything had to be completely reformatted and he had to start over.  The problem is that Jason was not making regular backups of his SRS database and so he was in trouble.  Well the short story is that John turned out to be the hero and got almost all of his data back using a super secret magic incantation.  But Jason was still out about a weeks worth of data.  Imagine not having a copy of that $300,000 proposal that you just gave to a client.  How embarrassing would that conversation be?  My guess is that you can kiss that job good bye.

So here is the moral of our little story:  BACK-UP YOUR DATA!  

If Jason had been running nightly backups to a remote data location like we recommend he would have been fine.  heck if you are using the enterprise edition of SmartOffice we will run the backups for you.  If you have a Peer-to-Peer setup then back up your database as often as possible if it is manually or if you have backup software, use it.  (HINT:  Vista has a built in backup utility.)

OK, I think you might get my point by now so I won’t say it again (BACK UP YOUR DATA!) but please take a few minutes do the right thing.  And always remember what my Pappy used to say: BACK UP YOUR DATA!

Hello world! - Or at least Hello Simply Reliable SmartOffice Users

I know, you are rolling your eyes. Why do we need another blog? Just something else that we have to monitor. And about SRS?

Well we have been talking to our clients and one thing they have all said is that they want better communication about what is happening with Simply Reliable Software. So we listened (novel idea isn’t it). This will be reserved for SmartOffice users only and not open to the general public, at least for now. We want a place that you can come and get the latest news and notes about our software. Use the RSS feed or follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter or whatever other source you use (If we are missing one, let us know and we will do our best to add it). It is our goal to make it easy for you to stay informed.

We will post all sorts of things here just for SRS users. Tips for ease of use, new features, best practices and more. We may even solicit your feedback on new features we are working on. So check in here early and often.
